The State of Kansas offers some of the finest whitetailed deer hunting in the World. Kansas doesn’t have near as many deer as the other Midwestern States. However, while you will see less deer in Kansas, this State offers true Boone and Crockett possibilities.
Two deer species thrive in Kansas: the mule deer and the white-tailed deer. Mule deer are restricted to the western one-third of the state, primarily on the High Plains, Smoky Hills, and Red Hills regions. As you travel west to east, you will see more and more whitetails. Remember whitetails and mulies don’t get along. This means the odds of killing both species on one farm in one location is dismal, however stick to the Eastern half of the State for monster whitetails especially in the Southeast Kansas.
Kansas Deer Tags are obtained through a leniet lottery process that is friendly although there is a slight chance you would have to wait one year for a tag. (Most hunters haven’t had a problem obtaining the Kansas Deer Tag.)
